At the heart of my practice is the afro pick, an intergenerational tool used to detangle hair and, in my hands, to detangle personal experiences and collective histories. Its teeth drag through layers of acrylic paint, leaving traces that speak of ancestral care, labour, and love. More recently, I've started to explore some of these ideas through 3D-printed sculptures and audio soundscapes where I ""tangle"" audio to present nonlinear forms of storytelling as a means of sharing pieces of my life that are less polished and more raw, honest, and unapologetically black.
My visual language blends the inherited culture of the Caribbean Diaspora with the pixelated gaming worlds, urban architecture, and everyday landscapes that have shaped my childhood and current experiences.
Ultimately, my work is an ongoing reflection on what it means to navigate the world as a second-generation Canadian, balancing the weight of inherited stories with the immediacy of lived experience.
